All About the Awesome Freya in Animal Crossing 2024

Freya is one of the many villagers players can meet in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Animal Crossing series is highly regarded for its expansive cast of charismatic, quirky characters. Some of these characters can become residents of the player's community. These neighbors form an important backbone of the series' addictive gameplay loop. The game features numerous villagers with different personalities and species. Here is what you need to know about one such character, Freya.

    Who is Freya?

Freya is a pink wolf villager introduced at the beginning of the Animal Crossing series. While absent from the Nintendo DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World, she later returned in City Folk for the Wii. She has the snooty personality type, which makes her seem uptight and arrogant. Befriending her will mitigate this somewhat, though she will still be relatively haughty. Freya shares her snooty personality and species with another villager, Whitney. Intriguingly, Whitney was introduced in Wild World, the game in which Freya was missing. It is possible that her removal from the handheld title was to eliminate any overlaps and highlight the newer villager. Freya's birthday is December 14, which makes her a Sagittarius.

Her name likely derives from the renowned Norse goddess of love, beauty, and battle, Freyja. This connection is furthered via her initial catchphrase, "uff da." The phrase is Norwegian in origin and is an exclamation similar to saying "oh my" in English. In the Japanese version of the game, her name translates to the English word "tundra." Both of these names imply Freya hails from a frigid region. This is fitting as her initial garb is the reindeer sweater. She was initially the lone female wolf in Animal Crossing until the release of the Japan-exclusive Dōbutsu no Mori e+ for the Nintendo Gamecube, which introduced Vivian. Freya has the fashion hobby and will often walk while holding a pink bag.

    How to Get Freya

If you are seeking to add the pink wolf to your island's roster, there are multiple routes you can take. One way to recruit her is through the campsite as a random visitor. Keep in mind that this is chosen randomly from a wide range of villagers. You can also acquire Freya through an Amiibo card by heading to the Resident Services building. Inside is a Nook Stop kiosk which can be used to scan an Amiibo card or figure. This will allow you to invite her directly to your campsite rather than playing the odds. Using this method will require multiple days of effort as villagers invited to the campsite via Amiibo will not immediately join your community.

Other methods outside of Amiibos exist should you wish to avoid spending real money. With a free plot of land available, you can try to scout Freya on a Mystery Island tour. This will require using Nook Miles Tickets and heading on tours via the airport. While it is feasible to find her on one of these tours, like the campsite, you will have to get lucky for her to show up. If none of the above options are feasible or consume too much time, the next option would be to seek out an online community. If another player has the pink arctic wolf and is willing to part with her, you can snag her, assuming you have the room.

    Dance with the Wolf

Wolves are some of the most popular characters in the Animal Crossing series, and Freya is no exception. While other characters like Audie and Whitney are arguably more popular than her, she will still command a fairly steep price in the villager market. Her popularity certainly outshines other villagers, and some players aim to fill their island with only wolves as residents. No matter the path you take to invite her, Freya is a cool customer sure to put a wolfish grin on your face.
