Pittsburgh Penguins: Prospect Tristan Broz Name To Watch For In Training Camp

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect centerman Tristan Broz was a second-round pick (58th overall selection) in the 2021 NHL Draft. Broz is only 21 years old and has a bright future ahead of him in hockey. Broz will be one of many prospects who will look to make a name for themselves in Pittsburgh Penguins training camp when it opens up on Wednesday. There will be a lot of prospects to keep an eye on other than the main stars of the roster. Tristan Broz played his college hockey for the University of Minnesota in 2021-2022 and played for the University of Denver from 2022-2024.

    Prospect To Watch For

Thehockeynews.com writer Kelsey Surmacz mentioned in an article about which Pittsburgh Penguins prospects to watch out for in training camp. Everyone is watching out for prospect Rutger McGroarty in camp, which doesn’t come as a surprise because he was acquired in a trade for Brayden Yager this offseason. A lot of people think that McGroarty could make the team out of camp and be a force as a rookie with the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, Surmacz also listed Tristan Broz as a prospect to watch for in training camp. She said:

“As good as McGroarty was, he wasn’t the best player in these games.

Nope. That honor goes to 2021 second-round pick Tristan Broz.

Broz was everywhere all weekend long. He registered three goals and seven points in three games, with four of those points coming against Buffalo on Monday. He was noticeable in all three zones, played a physical game, and developed chemistry with Ville Koivunen on the second line.

Fresh off of a National Championship with Denver and signing his ELC, Broz is a longshot to make the roster out of camp. But make no mistake: He was very impressive during these three games, and there were a whole lot of Penguins’ NHL brass witnessing it.

Don’t count this guy out. If he continues his dominance into training camp and into the AHL season, it won’t be long before he gets the call.”

Tristan Broz played in 43 games last season with the University of Denver in college hockey. He scored 16 goals and recorded 24 assists, along with a plus/minus rating of 20. Broz played a huge role for their hockey team last season. After the college hockey season ended, Broz played in two postseason games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL. The 21-year-old may be going to start the 2024-2025 season in the AHL. Tristan Broz could play a huge role in the AHL this year assuming he doesn’t make the Pittsburgh Penguins opening night roster. It will be important for the Pittsburgh Penguins to have its young players play well in training camp and preseason games. This is a hockey team that is trying to compete for another Stanley Cup title in the Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang era. Other than Broz, some of the other prospects she mentioned to watch out for were Vasily Ponomarev, Avery Hayes, and Sergei Murashov.
