Dak Prescott Tops NFL’s Highest-Paid Players List for 2024

This enormous deal doesn’t just keep Prescott in Dallas through the 2028 season but also makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history. So the total money taken in 2024 is $86.3 million for Prescott, and it puts him in a significantly higher position than the second-highest earner.

Those aren’t terrible stats per se; however, they haven’t exactly appeased the Cowboys’ fan base or elicited excessive praise from critics. The Cowboys are now sitting at 1-1, and some of the fans were hoping to see better from Prescott.

Impact of CeeDee Lamb Holdout

That certainly didn’t help: His top receiver, CeeDee Lamb, held out at the start of the season. The holdout threw a wrench into Prescott’s timing and chemistry with Lamb, making for an injury-riddled season early on. With Lamb back and Prescott getting more reps in practice, though, the rapport is expected to improve.

Prescott gets a chance to put things right in Week 3 when the Cowboys face the Baltimore Ravens. The game would come to be one that would be imperative for Prescott to validate the hefty sum of money on his contract. Should he come out strong, he could help shift some of the lost confidence away from himself and back to the team. The point here remains how well Prescott will perform facing his peers. His team, the Cowboys, as well as his fans, will wait to see whether Prescott will meet expectations from that record-breaking contract.

The new deal means Dak Prescott will go into 2024 as the highest-paid player in the NFL. But there’s a problem: the real question is whether he will be a better player because of it. With the tough game against the Ravens, though, there lies his chance to prove that his new contract was justified and that this season he will be the one to lead the Cowboys to that promised redemption.
