Slipknot’s Sid Wilson Describes Recovering From Severely Damaging Burns
2 hours ago
Sid Wilson has been sharing his recovery journey with his Instagram followers after the Slipknot member sustained fire-related injuries as a result of a burn pile/gasoline explosion in late August. Wilson began documenting his injuries in the hospital, sharing the gruesome dangers of improper fire safety. Throughout this ordeal, Wilson has received support from girlfriend, Kelly Osbourne.
Impulse Decision Leads to Burn Unit
On August 28, Fox News released an article explaining the events that landed Sid Wilson in an Iowa City burn unit. According to the article, Wilson rode an ATV to a burn pile on his property. The fire was lit days before the explosion took place. He said he had debris remaining in the pile, so he decided to add gasoline to finish the burn quickly.
Although he said he planned to light the fire with a long branch, he could not immediately find one. He threw caution to the wind, walked up to the pile, reached out, and tried to light it. Wilson said in the Fox interview that the gasoline vapors combusted once the fire was introduced and up the flames went.
In the Fox article, Wilson stated after the explosion, he rode to his house via a four-wheeler. He told his family, “We got to go!” They first went to an urgent care facility before Wilson was transferred to a larger Des Moines hospital. Once stable, he was then transferred to an Iowa City burn unit.
Slipknot Stays Positive
On the Slipknot website, the band issued a collective statement to fans.
“Our brother Sid Wilson was in an accident today and sustained burns across his body,” Slipknot said in the statement. “He’s recovering with his family and will still join us on stage at Rocklahoma next weekend. He thanks everyone for the well wishes, and will see you all soon.”
Aftercare
Sid Wilson has made several personal videos to post to his Instagram page under the name @sidthe3rd. The first video was posted from the Des Moines hospital on Aug. 23. As hospital staff work to admit him and administer care, he tells his followers that he received burns to his face, particularly to his lips. Wilson then shows his audience his arms, both of which were burnt.
In the second video, Wilson checks in from an ambulance as he is transferred to the burn unit. He reiterated that he “was okay” and answered some fan questions. On Aug. 24, He captioned a selfie of him smiling, “On my way home.”
Osbourne has also shared a video of her own on Instagram. In a post from Aug. 30, she shared a video, stating, “Warning this is nasty.” In the video, she is shown trying to get herself together as she works to remove bandages that have fused with Wilson’s skin.
Final Thoughts
Following his impulse, Sid Wilson learned about the importance of fire safety. Since his first video, Wilson has shown his fans he is doing well considering he has sustained massive burns. His humor shines through his painful exterior in his social media posts. Hopefully, he will feel like the pre-explosion Sid Wilson.
