According to Sports Illustrated, Thompson said, “I’m excited … It’s a whole new chapter of my career that has the potential to be really special … The team was so close last year— three wins away from a championship — so I know we have the ingredients for success. We just have to stay together and build week by week. I know we can do something special, and that’s why I’m here early, just to get a feel for the city and the lay of the land. And I’m having fun while doing it.”
Thompson’s recent comments were optimistic and upbeat. Thompson appears to believe in the Mavericks, and most importantly, his own success, as he attempts to bounce back from a subpar last season with the Warriors.

Thompson’s latest outing with his teammates occurred over the weekend. Thompson reportedly helped set up a boat trip to Santa Catalina Island — an island in Los Angeles County — and participated in it to build chemistry with Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, etc.
Bleacher Report reported that Thompson said, “It’s been a pleasure getting to know the guys … I just wanted to do something nice for them and take them to one of my favorite places — Catalina Island. We had a great crossing; the water was beautiful that day, the sun was out, and it was awesome. We did a lot of fun things, whether it was diving off the boat, riding jet skis, or just swimming to shore. It was such a beautiful day, and I think those moments as teammates are the ones you cherish for life.”
Thompson’s statement regarding the Mavericks boat trip was descriptive and light-hearted. Thompson appears to cherish his teammates on top of his current opportunity in the NBA.

Klay Thompson’s unique situation can work out in the short and long run, but the former Splash Brother should adapt to the Dallas Mavericks’ style by relying on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to draw in the defense for most of his open looks instead of following the Golden State Warriors’ motion-based offense.
