They are second in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (58.0). Although they allow the fifth-highest passing yards per game, they aren't facing a debilitating passing attack this week. The Patriots will play ground control and field position to win their games this season and that has been the recipe for success through the first two games and that is the key to beating the New York Jets.

Maybe this is a confidence boost for this Jets offense. Breece Hall had another fantastic game with 114 yards from scrimmage including a 26-yard touchdown catch.
This Jets' defense has had unfortunate injury luck so far this season. C.J. Mosley was carted to the locker room after limping to the sideline, Jermaine Johnson tore his Achilles, and D.J. Reed is listed as questionable against the Pats, however, he is hopeful to play. Those are massive blows to a defense that has not lived up to their expectations so far. They rank 25th in opponent points per game (24.5), 17th in passing yards allowed (195.5), 24th in rushing yards allowed (155.0), and third in sacks (7). For the New York Jets to reach their ultimate goal, their defense is going to have to play better than they have through the first two weeks.
Prediction
I am taking the New England Patriots to cover the 6.5-point spread. To keep it simple, this is too many points to lay against a team that wants to win low-scoring games. The Jets are riddled with injuries and are still without pass rusher Hasaan Reddick who is still holding out because of a contract dispute. The Patriots are going to play field position and run the ball down the Jets' throats in this game. This game will be low-scoring and 6.5 is too big of a spread for the New York Jets to cover in a game in which they will probably lose time of possession.
