Pittsburgh Penguins: Evgeni Malkin Makes Massive Announcement Ahead Of the 2024-2025 Season

The Pittsburgh Penguins enter the 2024-2025 season with a chance to compete for another Stanley Cup title and look for its sixth title in franchise history. Evgeni Malkin is one of the greatest players in the history of the Penguins and will one day have his number #71 retired in the rafters along with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang. Malkin has been in the NHL since the 2006-2007 season. He has made the playoffs every year in his NHL career except for the last two seasons. Evgeni Malkin would love to compete for another title before he retires.

He Doesn’t Want Long Summers Anymore

In 2009, Evgeni Malkin was the Conn Smythe Winner when the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup against the Detroit Red Wings in seven games. Malkin displayed his stardom throughout the entire postseason that year. Anytime Sidney Crosby is sidelined, Evgeni Malkin always rises to the occasion. On Thursday, he spoke to Seth Rorabaugh of triblive.com. Malkin had some interesting things to say about this team entering the 2024-2025 season. He said:

“My personality, it’s win every game. It’s what I do all my life. The last two seasons, it’s not fun when we lost. We (did) not make the playoffs. It’s not great for the city, not great for fans because we have amazing fans. They support us so well. Here, all leadership — me, Sid, (Letang) — we want to win every game. We don’t want a long summer again. We want to play in the playoffs. Any team can win in the playoffs, the Stanley Cup.”

A lot of them making it back to the playoffs or not this season will depend on goalie Tristan Jarry. If Jarry does not perform well again, they could very well miss the playoffs for the third consecutive season. Malkin played in all 82 games last season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He scored 27 goals and recorded 40 assists. His plus/minus rating was +5. That is a good season from the 38-year-old, but he will need to be better if they want to get back to the playoffs. There has been some criticism about Evgeni Malkin from the fanbase in the past.

Malkin is projected to be the second-line centerman this season. He is projected to be a line with Rickard Rakell and Kevin Hayes this season. Evgeni Malkin is also projected to be on the first power-play unit this season. The power play will also need to be better this season if they want to get to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Evgeni Malkin will no doubt be in the spotlight this season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He needs to take his words seriously if they want to make a deep playoff run in 2024-2025 also.
