New York Mets-Atlanta Braves Have Next 2 Games Postponed

Due to the expected impacts of Hurricane Helene, the final two games of the New York Mets-Atlanta Braves series have been postponed. The games will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, September 30. This decision was not without controversy as this was a distinct possibility over the last few days and both the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves had a mutual off-day on Monday, September 23. These teams could have played Monday to avoid a doubleheader with presumably the fate of both ballclubs hanging in the balance.

With the MLB Playoffs beginning on Tuesday, October 1, it will be a short turnaround for whichever team qualifies. Both teams must not concern themselves with the future as they both have critical games coming up before they meet again on Monday at Truist Park. How will the wild card standings look when Monday rolls around?

New York Mets In Driver's Seat

The New York Mets(87-70) currently occupy the second National League Wild Card spot. They hold a half-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks and are one game clear of the Atlanta Braves. New York closes out their regular season with a three-game series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. Arizona finishes the regular season with four home games. They have one game against the San Francisco Giants and three against the San Diego Padres. Atlanta hosts the Kansas City Royals for a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals beginning on Tuesday.

The New York Mets have a 77.6% chance to make the MLB Playoffs according to FanGraphs. Atlanta has a 69.1% chance while Arizona sits at 53.2%. This is not an ideal situation for either the Atlanta Braves or the New York Mets, but both ballclubs must make the most out of a rough draw. Atlanta will fortunately be able to remain home for the rest of the regular season while New York has to fly to Milwaukee later and then back to Atlanta on Sunday. The eyes of the baseball world will descend upon Atlanta, Georgia for a critical doubleheader on Monday.
