No. 1 Texas Longhorns Release Updated First SEC Injury Report

The first SEC injury report for the Texas Longhorns came out Wednesday. “Ouch” is an appropriate sentiment, considering some devastating changes to the roster. The majority of the original report was offensive, with two defensive backs and of course Quarterback Ewers. Safety Derek Williams, Jr. was listed as “Doubtful” and Defensive Back Jelani McDonald was listed as “Questionable”. Both players were adjusted on an updated list released by the Texas Longhorns Thursday evening. Two players not previously listed have been added. DeAndre Moore Jr., who had some clear difficulty in the last game against ULM, is still “Questionable”. Saturday’s game is growing closer, and there have already been additional changes to the report.

    Starters in Short Supply

The Texas Longhorns original injury report was released Wednesday, well before Saturday’s clash with Mississippi State. Some of these were expected, considering the previous statuses of Christian Clark and CJ Baxter. Safety Williams, Jr. was already not in the game against Louisiana-Monroe due to a previous hamstring injury.

Another cause for the Texas Longhorns’ concern is the availability of a key starting wide receiver. DeAndre Moore Jr. was injured early on in the Louisiana-Monroe game. He caught his first career touchdown pass in the game against UTSA. The starting wide receiver is listed as “Questionable,” and his injury has not been disclosed at this time.

    Latest Changes Since ULM

Another player whose injury has not been disclosed is Running Back Quintrevion (Tre) Wisner. According to the original injury report, he was designated “Questionable”. He has since been upgraded to “Probable” along with Jelani McDonald and late addition Edge Rusher Barryn Sorrell.

The other new player on the report is the Longhorns’ Deep Snapper, Tate Haver coming on as “Doubtful.” While Defensive Back McDonald was upgraded, Running Back Colin Page’s status has been downgraded from “Doubtful” to “Out.” Also “Out” for the foreseeable future is Texas Longhorns Safety Derek Williams, Jr.

    Semi-Update on Quinn Ewers

Nothing significantly new was brought to light on Quinn Ewers’ previous status update. Something on everyone’s minds is – is Quinn starting Mississippi State? If not, as seems more likely the more the week goes on, will he start against OU? Coach Sarkisian has made clear:

“He (Ewers) has got to do enough to show me he can play. Can he execute the game plan? I want to make sure he’s healthy enough to play at a high level.”

Although Ewers attended practice on Monday, this latest report still lists him as “Questionable.” The Red River Rivalry is the first game of October for the Texas Longhorns. Realistically, if Arch Manning again gets the start, Texas won’t be in too bad of shape. Coach Sarkisian intends to announce the starting quarterback for the Mississippi State game on Friday.

    Final Thoughts

This updated report hasn’t exactly assuaged the Texas Longhorns fans’ fears. Arch Manning may get the nod to start Mississippi State to let a recovered Ewers rest. It’s a chance to capitalize on last week’s victory against the ULM Warhawks. That remains to be seen as the week progresses. Keep in mind – the OU game will occur after a week off (read: an additional rest). The status of Ewers and the others could very well be improved by then. Check back here for any future updates.
