Report: Bane And Deathstroke To Become Latest Batman Villains To Hit The Big Screen

Batman is one of the most popular superheroes in the world. Part of what makes the caped crusader so popular is the iconic villains he fights through the streets of Gotham. The villains have started to become popular on their own. DC Studios has given Joker his own movie, with a sequel releasing soon. The Penguin has just released on HBO Max, a mini-series chronicling the rise of the villain in Gotham. Reports indicate there may be some more coming to the big screen in the future. Bane and Deathstroke are reportedly making their way to the big screen in the near future.

Batman Villains Bane And Deathstroke

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Bane and Deathstroke will be hitting theaters in one movie. Bane last appeared on the big screen in the finale of the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Tom Hardy played a more grounded version of the villain, while the comic version has him addicted to a serum that makes him stronger. Deathstroke made a brief appearance in the previous DC Universe. An after-credits scene saw him aboard a boat owned by Lex Luthor. However, the planned sequels never happened.

It isn’t the first time the character has been rumored for a movie appearance. When Ben Affleck was rumored to be starring and directing a new Batman movie, Deathstroke was to be the villain. At one point, The Raid director Gareth Evans was tied to a solo project for the character. While none of those projects materialized, James Gunn is determined to do the character justice.

Here’s What We Know

Very little is known about the project at this time. The report indicated that Matthew Orton, a writer for the new Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World, is working on the script. No director has been named at this time. Gunn is more than likely hard at work planning out how all of these pieces fit together. DC Studios has not been able to match the success of its rivals. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has smashed box office records, while DC movies have flopped left and right. There are many reasons for this, but part of it was the lack of fan-favorite characters on the screen.

This report is promising for fans of Batman villains. However, none of this is a guarantee. Projects get moved around or canceled all the time. Fans should feel some optimism because of who is leading the studios. Gunn has shown an ability to create movies that fans love. His Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy made completely unknown characters into household names. In the DC Universe, his Suicide Squad movie received positive reviews and spawned a series for one of the characters, Peacemaker. If he can make this movie happen, comic book fans will be very happy.
