All About the Awesome Intelligence Bobblehead in Fallout 4

The dangerous wastelands of Fallout 4 can be brutal. Thankfully, items like the Intelligence Bobblehead and its fellow bobbleheads can ease the pain. Scattered throughout the Commonwealth, these Vault-Tec promotional items often require you to complete side quests or defeat dangerous enemies to acquire them. However, they are not just whimsical artifacts— they bestow powerful effects on your Sole Survivor. This guide covers what the Intelligence Bobblehead provides and how you can obtain it.

What Does the Intelligence Bobblehead Do?

The Intelligence Bobblehead grants the player a permanent stat boost to their Intelligence by 1 point. This boost is a passive effect that happens immediately upon acquiring the bobblehead. Intelligence is one of Fallout 4’s basic stats as part of its SPECIAL system. The stat functions differently in Fallout 4 compared to previous titles in the series due to the game lacking scores for skills. Instead, Intelligence increases the amount of experience the player receives from any source or action. Some players may find this effect superfluous, though higher Intelligence is also associated with potent perks. Some perks conflict with high Intelligence, such as Idiot Savant, so consider your build carefully.

Where to Find the Intelligence Bobblehead

You can discover the Intelligence Bobblehead at the Boston Public Library. The Library is located in roughly the central area of the Commonwealth, northeast of Diamond City. While the area is not gravely important to the main storyline, a couple of side quests feature it. Most notably, the side quest “Public Knowledge” spotlights the location heavily. This quest, initiated by Daisy in Goodneighbor, tasks you with returning an overdue book to the Library while also eliminating super mutants that have raided the building. The location is also visited briefly in a Creation Club quest entitled "Neon Winter." Here you will travel to the Library while hunting a rogue A.I. and decrypt various terminals inside.

    Finding the Intelligence Bobblehead

As mentioned above, you will encounter several super mutants when nearing and entering the Boston Public Library. These behemoths are not known for tactful diplomacy, so you must repel their onslaught. On the library's western side is a door that allows access but requires Advanced lockpicking skills to open. Should you not have the requisite lockpicking skills, a much easier alternative is to use the nearby intercom to pass a negligible Charisma check. A third but roundabout way to get inside is via the train station. This requires contending with more super mutants but eventually leads to another Advanced-lock door and intercom, similar to the previous one.

Regardless of which route you take, your goal inside the library is the computer room. The room is located in the northwestern section of the Library on the second floor. There will be several Protectrons, turrets, super mutants, and traps populating the area. If you passed the check at the intercom to enter, the machines won’t turn hostile due to regarding you as an employee. Make your way to the northwest room, located behind a wooden door at the end of a large chamber. Once inside, the Intelligence Bobblehead will be perched on the computer's console. If you used the intercom trick earlier to gain entry, super mutants may suddenly emerge inside the Library and ambush you.

    In Conclusion

Unlike some bobbleheads, the Intelligence Bobblehead is not overly grueling to obtain. Intelligence may or may not be an important part of your build, but the bobblehead is easy enough to retrieve should you so desire. Even if your Intelligence is at maximum, the bobblehead will push the stat past the limit, making this a worthwhile item to hunt. The bobblehead has appeared as a crossover reference in other media, including a card in Magic: The Gathering. A real-life bobblehead based on the in-game item was also once sold in the Bethesda Store. Don't miss out on this chance to enhance your character—check in at the Boston Public Library and claim the Intelligence Bobblehead today.
