Palworld PlayStation 5 Port Will Not Getting Japan Release

Palworld has been the topic of discussion among gamers for a couple of weeks now. Between the Nintendo lawsuit and the PS5 port, there's always some new Palworld news. After the PlayStation 5 port was announced at the most recent State of Play, news surfaced that the long-awaited port would not arrive in Japan just yet, or maybe ever. Here's what we know.

    Palworld PS5 Port

Palworld initially launched on PC, and Xbox is also available on Xbox Game Pass. The game is still in Early Access, a developer's way of letting their consumers know that the game is unfinished and certain things may be subject to change. For example, a popular game in Early Access for a long time is Disney Dreamlight Valley, which left Early Access in late 2023 after being in that status for over a year. Palworld has only been in Early Access for nine months so far and still is, despite the new PS5 release.

On September 24th, PlayStation gave a surprise announcement about the port. Even though it had been rumored for months now that Palworld would get a PlayStation port, no one expected that to continue with Nintendo suing Pocketpair. Suppose Nintendo and The Pokémon Company win their lawsuit against Pocketpair. In that case, the game will likely be removed from all game stores, and we're unsure if that means it will no longer be playable for gamers who've already purchased it.

    Palworld Statement

Before people could sit with the good news of PlayStation gamers finally getting to experience Palworld, the official Palworld X account announced that Japan would not be included. In a statement translated from Japanese, they said, "About the PS5 version of Palworld. As announced in the official PlayStation "State of Play," the PS5 version of "Palworld" was released today in 68 countries and regions around the world."

The message continued, "The release date in Japan has not yet been decided. We apologize to everyone in Japan who was looking forward to it, but all of our staff will do our best to deliver it to PS5 users as soon as possible, so we hope you will wait for a little longer. We look forward to your continued support of Palworld."

Of course, keep in mind that this is a translation provided by X and powered by Google Translate, so that certain things may be inaccurate. However, it's interesting to see how they mentioned how many countries and regions it was released in, but not Japan. It seems they are explicitly implying that the lawsuit is the reason for the delay of Japan's Palworld release.

    Final Thoughts

While fans worldwide enjoy the PlayStation port of Palworld, fans in Japan are being left out. This is one more indication that Nintendo cares more about money than the happiness of gamers and consumers. Hopefully, Pocketpair will be able to secure a Japanese release sooner rather than later.
