West Indies Legend Dwayne Bravo Retires From Cricket

Dwayne Bravo, the great all-rounder for the West Indies, has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket after his final Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season was cut short due to injury. Bravo, who will turn 41 next month, is the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket. He retired from international cricket in 2021 and left the Indian Premier League last year. Over the last year, Dwayne Bravo has transitioned into coaching, working with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Afghanistan cricket teams.

Bravo’s final season in the CPL was cut short when he sustained an injury while attempting to catch St. Lucia Kings skipper Faf du Plessis in the seventh over of a game. Bravo was forced to leave the field immediately due to an injury, bringing his career to a premature end. He did not bowl in his final game and only appeared at number 11 during TKR’s fruitless pursuit of a lofty 219-run goal.

    Dwayne Bravo’s CPL Stunning Performance

Dwayne Bravo’s legacy in the CPL is undeniable, having played 107 matches, scored 1,155 runs with a strike rate of 129.33, and taken 129 wickets at an excellent average of 23.02. “Today is the day I say goodbye to the game that has given me everything. I knew at the age of five that this was the sport I was meant to play and that this was what I wanted to do. My entire existence was devoted to you, and I had no interest in anything else.

“In exchange, you gave me the life I dreamed of for myself and my family, and I can’t thank you enough.” The 40-year-old said in a post on Instagram. Overall, Bravo has made an unequaled contribution to the T20 format. He retires as the format’s top wicket-taker, having taken 631 wickets in 582 outings. Dwayne Bravo was retained by MI Emirates and was slated to play in the UAE’s ILT20 when his tenure in the CPL came to an end. However, he chose not to play in the event and announced his retirement.

    Bravo’s Future Ahead

Dwayne Bravo has been using his expertise to mentor new players in numerous T20 tournaments across the world, particularly the CPL, settling into a position similar to what MS Dhoni has done with the Chennai Super Kings for some time. Bravo returned to TKR ahead of CPL 2023, forming a deadly core alongside his good pals Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran. They advanced to the final when Imran Tahir’s Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated them.

While CPL 2024 will be Bravo’s final event on home soil, he will compete in other franchise contests across the world. He is now under contract with MI Emirates, who has retained him ahead of the third season of ILT20 in the UAE. He will be reunited with Pollard and Pooran in the Emirates. Dwayne Bravo also played for the Texas Super Kings in the United States Major League Cricket (MLC) last month.
