As a blockbuster MMO, Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls Online has provided an endless stream of content for players to enjoy. For over a decade, each new expansion pack has created a new experience for the community to keep the game fresh. This summer, they gave the millions of citizens of Tamriel their latest quest, the Gold Road expansion pack released on June 3.

In this latest chapter, players return to the nation of Cyrodiil from Oblivion to unveil a shocking Daedric secret. Additionally, there are many other rewards for longtime players to enhance their experience. Here is a breakdown of what players can expect from the Gold Road DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online.

The New Daedric Prince

According to the game's main site, there are many reasons to partake in this questline. While the expansion packs for The Elder Scrolls Online and the mainline DLC have usually succeeded in fleshing out Tamriel's world and mythology, few have done what this latest chapter did. A new Daedric Prince has entered the scene: Ithelia. This lost deity has control over all fate and paths. Given the magnitude of her power, Hermaeus Mora sealed her away and erased all memories of her existence. His willingness to "retcon" her away shows how seriously he took her threat.

Mora first hinted at her in the previous Necrom expansion pack, but she finally made her proper debut. In terms of aesthetics, she largely uses crystals and glass, further evidenced by having Daedric servants named "Fractured" and "Shardborn." For nearly thirty years, the pantheon of divine beings in the franchise has remained unchanged, and most have made at least one cameo per game. Adding a new, forgotten Prince to the lore will inevitably upend players' knowledge of the lore. Furthermore, there is a good chance she could return in later projects. Elder Scrolls Online's New Setting

In addition to the new force invading Tamriel, this expansion pack offers a new area to explore: the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is along the western coast of Cyrodiil, the central province of the continent. The eponymous Gold Road connects Anvil, Skingrad, and Kvatch to the Imperial City. This area first appeared in Oblivion during Mehrunes Dagon's invasion of Tamriel, but it is now rendered with the brilliant graphics of the MMO.

The expansion also added a new trial dungeon, Lucent Citadel. Trials in ESO serve as high-level challenges for groups of twelves players that they compete in. Here, players must search for the "Reanimating Crux" amidst the realm of Fargrave while battling waves of monsters. Players can also explore parts of the Wood Elven land of Valenwood on the southern border.

Other Gold Road Features

Beyond the two main features, there are other improvements to the online formula added by the pack. The game added "scribing," a way to customize spells. By completing a questline, accessing a hidden library, and collecting "Grimoires," players could customize the elements, buffs, and secondary effects of unique spells with thousands of possibilities. This adds yet another layer of customization that defines the Elder Scrolls series.

One of the more unique additions to the game from Gold Road is the "Skill Styling" feature. This gives players the ability to add unique visual elements for major abilities. In a game where dozens of players clash against each other and hurl these spells, adding this feature will be very useful in making things clearer and giving more customization to players. Finally, this new questline naturally contains many new items, collectibles, and recruitable pets.
