Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry Ready for 'War' This Season

Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry are reportedly ready for "war" this upcoming season. Thompson, 34, and Curry, 36, are former teammates of the Golden State Warriors. The "Splash Brother"' split was formalized in July 2024 when Thompson was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a six-team sign and trade, which included the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Thompson and the Mavericks will meet Curry and the Warriors on November 12, 2024, at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Curry will give Thompson his flowers in the pregame festivities, but the actual game won't be sentimental. Here's what you need to know about Thompson and Curry's soon-to-be "war" ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Stephen Curry's Words About Klay Thompson

The Golden State Warriors wrapped up their training camp at BYU-Hawaii's Cannon Activities Center in Laie, Oahu, Hawaii, last week. At BYU-Hawaii, Stephen Curry spoke to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk about Klay Thompson's departure and what it'll be like facing off against Thompson for the first time.

Curry told ESPN, "Through training camps and practices, we played against each other on opposite teams ... But nothing like an actual competitive NBA game. So they'll have the ceremony .., and I'm going to be fully engaged and present and making sure you celebrate him the way he's supposed to. And then after that, it's war. That's how we're all built."

Draymond Green's Prediction About the 'War'

Unlike Stephen Curry, Draymond Green had a rather abstract prediction about the "war" as the Golden State Warriors anticipate the upcoming matchup against the Dallas Mavericks in November 2024. Green can be a man of many words, but like Curry, he didn't want Thompson to leave the Bay Area.

Green told ESPN, "I'm going to run through his chest ... Because I used to run through my older brother's chest when we played. There's always this public disdain over me and [LeBron James'] brotherhood. I try to kill him [on the court] more than anybody. I take him out. And vice versa. That's what it is. I'm more apt to run through his chest than Kyrie [Irving]."

    Thompson Finds Middle Ground

Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green remain friends even after Thompson's departure. Curry previously said that he has "no ill will" towards Thompson. Green said that he and Thompson are "friends for life."

Green shared with ESPN, "It's a happy divorce, if there's a divorce ... A lot of divorces are nasty. This ain't one of them. I don't even qualify it as a divorce. It's just the next chapter in all of our lives. It's an opportunity for me and Steph, see what we can do together." Green added that Thompson invited him on one last boat ride in Los Angeles, California, before leaving for training camp in Dallas, Texas, and before Green rescinded Thompson's invitation due to a family emergency. Curry didn't join the boat ride but hopes to join another one someday.

Curry shared with ESPN, "It's weird, we talked about [taking the boat out] when we first came into the league, stuff that we used to do together ... Then you start having families, me and Draymond have multiple kids and schedules going crazy. But I will get on this boat at some point, even though we're not teammates anymore."
