Big Injury Report For Houston Texans Heading Into Week 6

The Houston Texans might be the most banged-up team in the NFL right now. As if losing both starting running backs wasn't enough, star Wide Receiver Nico Collins suffered a hamstring injury during last week's win against Buffalo. Headed into Week 6, the Houston Texans are slowly having players return to practice, but there remain several players at risk of not seeing the field soon. How will the team fare this weekend without key members of their team?

    Nico Collins

Collins' hamstring injury placed him on injured reserve. That keeps him off the field for at least four weeks. It likely won't take him longer than that to recover, as he could come off the field on his own when the injury took place. It was also a contactless injury. Collins simply hurt his hamstring running for a touchdown against the Bills. Hamstrings are typically week-to-week injuries, so don't expect Collins to be on the field for the next four weeks.

    Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon

Mixon is still nursing the injury that he sustained from a vicious hit in week 2 against the Chicago Bears. Despite an MRI stating no serious damage was found, Mixon's ankle has kept him on the bench ever since. Mixon did not practice on Wednesday, which isn't a good look considering he was limited in practice last Friday before the Bills game. Realistically, Mixon would need at least one full practice before the game against the Patriots to have any real hopes of playing. Otherwise, the Texans will try to keep him healthy for week 7 on the road against the Green Bay Packers.

    Dameon Pierce

Finally, some good news for the Houston Texans as Dameon Pierce returned to practice on Wednesday. Pierce has missed substantial time with a hamstring injury of his own. Head Coach DeMeco Ryans has stated that barring anything else serious happening, Pierce will play on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Sunday might be a big chance for Pierce to show the Houston Texans what he can do. He has been on the team for two years but has never really lived up to the expectations Houston put on him. He only scored four touchdowns in his first year. Last year, his starting role slowly dissipated as Devin Singletary got more and more snaps.

    Conclusion

Arguably, the Houston Texans might need their running game back more than they need Collins. After all, Stefon Diggs is more than capable of taking over Wide Receiver 1 duties. The Houston Texans have been missing a strong rushing performance for a while. They haven't rushed for over 100 yards since week 1, the last week Mixon was healthy. Cam Akers, who has been the de facto starting running back, has a season-high of only 53 yards. Houston will look to put together a solid performance against a New England Patriots team that is one of the league's worst.
