New York Mets Await Winner Of Critical Game 5

The New York Mets will be able to kick up their feet this evening as they await the winner of the NLDS between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. The series will come down to a winner-take-all Game 5 this evening at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. This will be a historic game, in addition to deciding which team will face the New York Mets in the NLCS. San Diego Padres will send Yu Darvish to the mound and the Dodgers will counter with Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It will be the first matchup of Japanese-born starting pitchers in MLB postseason history.

New York experienced great success this regular season against the San Diego Padres as they took five of seven games versus the Padres. The Mets had no such success against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers. They went 2-4 against the Dodgers including a three-game sweep at Citi Field in May. New York also took two of three on the road in April, but the season series shifted when they were swept at home. Regardless of who wins tonight's game, the NLCS will begin on Sunday in California. The Mets will be an underdog regardless of whom they face. Will the New York Mets continue their tremendous run of baseball?

New York Mets Red Hot Over Last Few Months

The Mets have been the best team in baseball since June 1. This hot streak helped New York to make the MLB Playoffs and leave them four wins away from their first World Series since 2015. They would on to lose in five games to the Kansas City Royals. New York's MLB Playoff push extended past the regular season. They had to play a doubleheader on Monday, September 30, on the road against the Atlanta Braves to qualify. The New York Mets remained hot as the postseason rolled around. They are 5-2 thus far in the MLB Playoffs. Even with such a stellar record this postseason, it has not been all smooth sailing for New York.

New York has had to come back in multiple games and overcame a shaky bullpen thus far this postseason. The team has a 4.01 ERA this playoffs, the worst of any ballclub remaining in the playoffs. New York has been spectacular during their first seven playoff games with RISP. They are second in the league with a .306 ERA in runners in scoring position. The New York Mets starting rotation has also been exemplary in the MLB Playoffs with a 2.43 ERA. If the Mets can continue coming up with timely hits and continue getting great production from their starting rotation, World Series baseball may be coming to "The Big Apple."

    Conclusion

The New York Mets were sellers at the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline, which caused both the fans and front office to look at this season as one where they rebuild for 2025 and beyond. Instead, New York made the NLCS for the first time in nearly a decade. Now that the Mets have shocked the baseball world and made it this far, they are not ready for their improbable playoff run to end. Shortstop Francisco Lindor is excited about what winning a World Series would mean in New York. "I want to win it all. I want to be a team that comes back every 10 years and they eat for free anywhere they go."

With eight more wins, this New York Mets team will go down in the history books. It would be the team's first championship since 1986 and give a historically snake-bitten franchise and fanbase a truly extraordinary run that will be talked about for decades.
