Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys Preview, Prediction; Odds | NFL Week 6, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys are hosting the Detroit Lions in America's Game of the Week according to FOX. For Dak Prescott and the Cowboys, they are 3-2 on the season, sit 2nd in the NFC East, and are on a two-game winning streak.

For Jared Goff and the Lions, they sit 3-1 on the season, on a two-game winning streak, sit 2nd in the NFC North, and are coming off a bye. This game is a rematch of last year's controversial game in which the Cowboys won 20-19. I am excited about this one so let's dive straight into it!

    Key Stats

    Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are coming off their bye week. In their last game, we saw them defeat the Seahawks 42-29. Jared Goff in that game went 18-18 passing for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns. They racked up almost 400 yards of offense, 389 while losing the time of possession battle.

This is a physical team that will not shy away from rushing the ball down their opponent's throat taking an 8-9 minute drive and keeping their opponent's offense on the sideline. Detroit's offense is 8th in points per game, 7th in passing yards per game, 7th in rushing yards per game, and 6th in yards per play.

Defensively, this team has stepped up from their play last week. The Lions' defense ranks 10th in points allowed per game, 27th in passing yards allowed per game, 4th in rushing yards allowed per game, 7th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 13th in sacks, and 12th in takeaways per game.

Led by Aiden Hutchinson, who leads the NFL in sacks with 6.5, this defense will have its hands full going against a Cowboys' passing attack that is 3rd in the NFL in terms of passing yards allowed per game. If Detroit is going to win this game, it will have to be their back end that succeeds.

    Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off an impressive win last week against the Steelers 20-17. Despite playing subpar for large parts of the game, Dak Prescott connected with Jalen Tolbert for the game-winning touchdown on 4th and goal with 26 seconds left.

Prescott ended with 29-42 passing for 352 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. On the season, their offense ranks 15th in points per game, 3rd in passing yards per game, 31st in rushing yards per game, 16th in offensive touchdowns, and 15th in yards per play.

Defensively, they are injury-riddled at this point in the season. Dallas will be without Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Eric Kendricks. Those are massive losses to a defense that has been below average this season.

They rank 22nd in points allowed per game, 10th in passing yards allowed per game, 23rd in rushing yards allowed per game, 21st in offensive touchdowns allowed, 22nd in sacks, and 16th in takeaways per game. Over the past two games, their rushing defense has improved, allowing just 26 rushing yards to the Giants and 92 to the Steelers.

    Prediction

The Detroit Lions will defeat the Dallas Cowboys in this game and cover the spread. Despite their rushing defense improving the past two games, they are coming off three physical games against the Ravens, Giants, and Steelers.

What do we know about the Lions? This is a super physical team that will not shy from rushing the ball 30+ times in a game if you allow them to. They are arguably the best offensive line in the NFL, they rank second according to PFF. The Dallas Cowboys may have success through the air, but they will not have the time of possession in order to keep this game from getting out of hand.

    Final Pick

    Detroit Lions -3 (-115)
