Tampa Bay Buccaneers Chris Godwin Amazing In Week 6

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers walked out of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints 4-2 despite Bucs Quarterback Baker Mayfield's mistakes in the first half, mainly the second quarter. The Buccaneers rallied together in the second half to pull in the win 51-27, shutting out the Saints in the second half without their starting Quarterback Derek Carr. The Bucs were without their starting center, Graham Barton, and starting Running Back, Rachaad White.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense started the game well, with a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. When the Bucs reached the second quarter, they faced choppy waters as turnovers became a problem. Mayfield had only thrown two interceptions before that tragic quarter when he threw three. In the second half, things went back to normal for the Bucs offense, and by the end of the game, two Bucs players ended up having great games.

    Chris Godwin

Chris Godwin, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver, has been Baker Mayfield's go-to guy since the start of the season. This week was no different. When Mayfield was faced with diversity, he looked to Godwin for completions. Godwin would catch 11 of the 13 targets thrown to him. He gained 125 yards for the game with two touchdowns. Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran Receiver Mike Evans would finish the day with two receptions and 34 yards with no touchdowns.

Chris Godwin has gained over 100 yards receiving twice this season. This is the fifth game in which Godwin has led the offense in receiving yards. He is one of two players in franchise history with four or more seasons and 1,000+ receiving yards, along with Mike Evans. He is one of two players in franchise history with at least 500 receptions for Tampa Bay, alongside Mike Evans. Godwin and teammate Mike Evans are also the only duo in the NFL to record three consecutive seasons with 1,000- or more receiving yards from 2021-23.

    Sean Tucker

Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Running Back Sean Tucker was undrafted from Syracuse in 2022. In his second season with the Buccaneers, Tucker has been impressive during this season's offseason and preseason. Tucker has only totaled 24 yards in his two seasons in the NFL. That all changed on Sunday when Buccaneers starting Running Back, Rachaad White, was out with an injury. Tucker and rookie running back Bucky Irving would share the snaps on Sunday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back would end the game with 14 carries with 136 yards with one touchdown. Tucker broke free in the fourth quarter for a 36-yard run. Bucky Irving would take the ball 14 times for 81 yards with one touchdown. The Buccaneers would finish the game with 277 yards in total rushing yards. According to the team website, Bucs receiver Chris Godwin had this to say about Tucker's performance,

"Sean has never complained since he's been here, even though he waited and worked his tail off to be prepared for this opportunity. When it arrived, he was ready for, and he took full advantage. And I think you could kind of see his confidence growing. He's a tough guy to bring down. I think he's faster than people think, and he runs really strong. I'm proud of him. It's a big part of what we have. We have a lot of guys."

    Final Thoughts

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had an impressive day on the ground without their starting running back. One would question whether the right running back is starting for the Bucs. Not saying Rachaad White is a bad running back. He is explosive and an excellent asset to the Bucs, but looking at the production of the run game this past game, would the Buccaneers be better if they made a roster change with the running back position? Next week, Chris Godwin and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the Baltimore Ravens at Raymond James Stadium. Will the Bucs have the same success in the run game again?
