Lanterns Lands Kyle Chandler as The Mesmerizing Hal Jordan

Lanterns, the upcoming live-action DCU series, has received exciting news regarding cast updates. The series will be based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name. DC Studios will produce it, and it will be released on HBO. Lanterns will star main Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

The series will be an installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters of James Gunn's DCU franchise. It will follow Lantern veteran Jordan and recruit Stewart. Gunn announced the series in 2023 as part of the Chapter One installment in the DC Universe. Even better, the studio has found its actors for the roles of Jordan and Stewart.

    Lanterns Finds Its Hal Jordan

DC Studios cast Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in the upcoming DCU TV series. Although Chandler was already reportedly in talks last month to play the character, Gunn confirmed his casting on a Threads post. Gunn said, "You've been asking for a while."Well, now (and just now) it's official. Welcome to the DCU, Kyle Chandler, our Hal Jordan."

The news comes hours after Aaron Pierre was cast Stewart in the DCU. Jordan and Stewart will team together in a Men in Black-style vibe. The official synopsis follows: "The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland." Lanterns is set to be part of the ten films and shows of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The series was officially greenlighted by the studio in June, although there isn't an official release date for Lanterns yet.

    About Lanterns' Star Kyle Chandler

Chandler is known for his role as coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights, which finished its last season in 2011 to both widespread and critical acclaim. That role earned him the Emmy for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series." He also starred in the Netflix series Bloodline, which lasted three seasons and earned two Primetime Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series."

Chandler will also join Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in RIP, a crime thriller directed by Joe Carnahan. The thriller will stream on Netflix, and other cast members include Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Nestor Carbonell, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. He has also appeared in films such as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and First Man.

    Final Thoughts

Chris Mundy (Ozark) will be the showrunner and executive producer of the series, and it's looking to start filming from next January to June in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially, DC had been in talks with Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but ultimately turned down the role.

Although there were some rumors that Chris Pine and Ewan McGregor were potential candidates, it turned out to be wishful thinking. Several characters will be part of the Green Lantern Corps as the DCU next year with Superman. HBO will produce Lanterns in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios.
