NY Islanders Game 3 Against Colorado is a Wonderful 6-2 Victory

The NY Islanders' Game 3 was about as good as it could be. It was a 6-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. There is now potential for a 2-1 road trip, which would be a very good result. This article will review some of the good things that happened, including something that occurred on October 14 that took forever last year. Anyway, you slice it; New York's Game 3 was all great news.

    Brock Nelson Scores Twice

It is 'Brocktober' as Brock Nelson scored twice in the NY Islanders game 3. His two goals in the game were his first two goals of the year, which is odd. Nelson is 31 years old and is known for scoring goals in October. On the strength of his goals, New York is now 1-1-1 and in fourth place.

They face a test on Thursday at St. Louis, but there is potential to pick up two more points and move further up in the standings. One thing is for certain: if Brock Nelson scores twice, the Islanders will win in St. Louis.

The Islanders Scored an Empty Net Goal

The sixth goal the Islanders scored in Game 3 was an empty-net goal by Mat Barzal with a minute and twelve seconds left. Last season, New York was the last team in the National Hockey League to score an empty-net goal, so it was good they scored one right away this season. This was one of the good storylines of NY Islanders game 3.

    Kyle Palmieri's Fantastic Individual Effort

On a play in the first period of the NY Islanders, Kyle Palmieri, a second-line player, made one of the greatest plays you will ever see. This set the tone for the Islanders throughout the game.

He jumped to steal a pass at the point. When he got the puck, he threw it to himself, about ten feet in front of him, enough to free himself for a breakaway. He went on the breakaway with an Avalanche player hot on his heels. Palmieri then made a beautiful move to deke the goaltender. He went from his forehand to his backhand and scored. This goal was an unbelievable individual effort. This contributed immensely to New York's win.

    Scoring Summary

The Colorado Avalanche scored early in the game, silencing the crowd. But that momentum was soon to be reversed by the Islanders, who scored (Andres Lee) to knot the game at one. Then Kyle Palmieri scored his unbelievable goal to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead after the first period.

There were two goals in the second period, both by Nelson, to give the Islanders a 3-1 lead after two periods. Nelson's second goal was shorthanded. This was the strongest element of New York's game.

The Islanders have a long history of collapsing in the third period. That was not the case in this game. The Avalanche scored just 39 seconds into the third period to cut the Islanders advantage to 4-2. However, a collapse for the Islanders was not in the offing on this night. Anthony DuClair scored, which was a good sign, and then Mat Barzal added his empty-net goal.

    Conclusion

One of the problems the Islanders had last year was that they were widely inconsistent. One night, they would look like they could not even skate, and the next night, the Islanders looked like the best hockey team in the world. This pattern continued in Game 3.

The Islanders have looked terrible in the previous games this season and looked great last night. We will see what team shows up when the Islanders play in St. Louis on October 17th. It will be a good test. St. Louis has been a pleasant surprise this year.
