Coco Gauff Confirms Her Schedule For Remainder Of 2024

Coco Gauff showed much great tennis at the last two WTA 1000 tournaments in China. She won the China Open title and made it to the semifinals at the Wuhan Open. Previously, Gauff took some time off after the US Open exit. She was unable to defend her title at the Cincinnati Open and US Open. She dropped from No. 2 down to No. 6 in the rankings as a result.

She then decided to part ways with her coach, Brad Gilbert, as they struggled to build on the success they achieved last year. The 20-year-old Gauff immediately chose Matt Daly at her side during her Asian swing then showed great improvement afterward. The American has revealed how many more events she will play in 2024.

Coco Gauff Had Made a Perfect Start

Gauff has shown improvements with new coach Matt Daly. She claimed her second WTA-1000 tournament title at the China Open in Beijing. She showed solid performance before she met Aryna Sabalenka at the Wuhan Open semifinal and lost the match. Her issues on the second serve returned in the final two sets against Sabalenka. The American made 21 double faults in the match and had to accept a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat.

However, the result was still enough for Coco Gauff to rise in this week’s WTA rankings. She moved from No. 4 to No. 3. She surpassed Jessica Pegula and made her the new American No. 1 in the process. Coco Gauff had another chance to play on this year’s Asian swing. There are two more weeks that contain a WTA-500 tournament before it finishes with a pair of WTA-250 events from October 28 to November 3.

Gauff Has Made Up Her Mind

The 20-year-old confirmed in an Instagram post that she will play no further tournaments in Asia. Gauff claimed she will only play one more event in 2025. She also confirmed that she will not represent Team USA at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals that take place the week after the WTA Finals.

Her last result at the Wuhan Open might have reduced any temptation to play more tournaments in Asia. The WTA has also officially announced that Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini, and Jessica Pegula have qualified for the WTA Finals Riyadh.

Gauff celebrated her third straight WTA Finals qualification. Her best result was last year when she reached the semifinals. This year, Coco Gauff earned her spot in Riyadh by winning two titles. She won the China Open in Beijing and ASB Classic in Auckland. She reached six more semifinals across all three surfaces, including the Australian Open and major WTA events in Indian Wells, Rome, Wuhan, and Berlin.

Gauff Has Endured Through It All

Gauff played her way to the World No. 2 last June with all her accomplishments during the 2023 season. But, she was hit with major problems as she crashed out in the fourth round at Wimbledon and in the defense of the US Open title. She was a semifinalist at the Australian and French Open. The USA team flag barrier also lost before the medals were decided at the Paris Olympics.

But now, with a lot of changes she made after the US Open, Gauff’s effort was praised by the former world No.1 and the last American man to win the US Open, Andy Roddick. “I think the rest of her game has become so much better than it was a year ago, that she will correct this at some point. I have full faith,” he said on the latest episode of his "Served" podcast.
