Faker Reaches Astounding 100 Worlds LoL Wins

Faker has solidified his legendary status by achieving a milestone never before seen in League of Legends Worlds play: notching 100 victories.

Faker is Already a LOL Legend

Faker, real name Lee Sang-Hyeok, is hailed by many as the greatest LOL player of all time and the statistics are certainly on his side. As ESPN reported at the conclusion back in 2019, he had already notched 100 international LOL victories. To put his accomplishment in perspective, at that time Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan were almost 25 wins behind with 76 international wins apiece. Far from resting on his international win accomplishment, Faker pushed forward stacking Worlds wins along the way.

First in the Hall of Legends

It isn’t just the fans who think Faker is the best LOL player of all time. Epic Games, the company behind the esports franchise, announced earlier this year that it was creating a hall of fame for competitive players. For the inaugural year of what is being called the “Hall of Legends,” Epic Games selected Faker to be the first-ever player honored. “We were beyond excited to make our first honoree the Unkillable Demon King himself: Faker,” the company said in an announcement.

T1 Moves On at Worlds

Faker and his teammates on Korea’s T1 had to square off with a tough opponent to advance out of the Worlds Swiss Stage. Germany’s G2 Esports are no lightweights but were not up to the challenge. In defeating the Germans, Faker was able to record his 100th win and his team now goes on to the Knockout Stage. Games in the Knockout Stage began October 17, but T1 doesn’t compete again until October 19 when they will face off against Top Esports of China. Both teams made it through the Swiss Stage with 3-1 records, appearing to be evenly matched.

No End In Sight

T1 as a team is the most successful in the history of LOL Worlds, having already won the championship title four times. Although they do not appear quite as dominant this year, a fifth championship is certainly still a possibility. All this success, plus Faker’s age (he turned 28 this year and has been a professional gamer for 11 years) have led some fans to speculate that retirement might be near.

Popular theories are that he will take a coaching position or possibly accept a lucrative position as a commentator now that esports are finding a wider audience. For his part, however, Faker has not given any interviews or public comments that indicate he is considering hanging up his controller any time soon.

Until he makes his intentions known, fans can watch him in this year’s Knockout Stage and marvel at the playing skills of a man who will go down in League of Legends history as one of the best of all time.
