New York Mets Get Embarrassed In Game 4; Now On Brink Of Elimination

The New York Mets lost 10-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS on Thursday night at Citi Field in Queens, New York. LA now holds a commanding 3-1 lead in the NLCS. New York found itself in a quick hole this evening as Shohei Ohtani hit a solo home run on the second pitch of the game. He picked up right where he left off last night as he hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning of Game 3. New York quickly responded with a solo shot by Third Baseman Mark Vientos to tie the game at 1. It was Vientos' 12th postseason RBI, which tied the team's all-time record.

Los Angeles responded by scoring two runs in the top of the third to make it 3-1. Shortstop Tommy Edman hit an RBI double and Third Baseman Enrique Hernandez added an RBI single. New York responded in the bottom of the third. Center Fielder Brandon Nimmo legged out a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to cut the lead in half. LA led 3-2 through three innings of play. That was when Right Fielder Mookie Betts took over. He hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth and a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to give LA a commanding 7-2 lead.

The offensive onslaught for Los Angeles continued as Edman added a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning and Catcher Will Smith had an RBI single to make it 10-2. Will the New York Mets stave off elimination and send the NLCS back to Los Angeles?

New York Mets Beaten In All Facets

The New York Mets did nothing well this evening. Their pitching staff had a rough day at the office as they issued nine walks. New York has walked at least seven hitters in all four NLCS games. Starting Pitcher Jose Quintana, who entered tonight's game with 11 scoreless innings to begin his 2024 Postseason, struggled in Game 4. He surrendered five earned runs over 3.1 innings of work. New York's bullpen did not fare much better as they surrendered five earned runs over the remaining 5.2 innings.

For the second game in a row, New York's offense was virtually non-existent. The New York Mets were 0-of-10 with RISP tonight and let countless opportunities slip through their fingertips. New York had a chance to cut into LA's lead but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning and left runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh. Dodgers Starting Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a strong outing. He surrendered two earned runs over 4.1 innings and punched out eight. The Dodgers bullpen tossed 4.2 scoreless innings to leave the Los Angeles Dodgers on the doorstep of another World Series appearance.

    Looking Ahead To Game 5

The Los Angeles Dodgers will send Jack Flaherty to the mound as they look to punch their ticket to the 2024 World Series. The starting pitcher for the New York Mets has yet to be announced at the time of publication. Flaherty stifled the New York Mets offense in Game 1 of the NLCS. He tossed seven scoreless innings and punched out six. If he can put together another solid start on Friday evening, Los Angeles will be leaving New York as National League champions.
