TOWANDA, Pa. ( WETM ) – The National Transportation Safety Board has released its final report on a plane crash that took place on Sept. 30, 2023, in Towanda, Pennsylvania.

According to the report, the crash took place at 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2023. The incident began during the plane’s initial climb when it hit about 300 feet above ground level and its engine began to run rough. The pilot then made various attempts to restore power which were unsuccessful. The engine then lost all power, forcing the pilot to perform a forced landing into a field. During the landing, the plane nosed over and came to rest inverted. The pilot was left uninjured as a result.

The report reads that the pilot had performed a preflight inspection and engine run-up before the plane took flight, which came out normal. An examination of the crash scene determined there were no irregularities with the engine, fuel system, ignition system and air intake. Additionally, the plane was determined to have had adequate fuel and no contamination.

Based on the information made available during the investigation, the NTSB determined the probable cause of the crash to be a “total loss of engine power during initial climb for undetermined reasons.”
