TOWER—Chuck and Nancy Tekautz have made an impact in the Tower-Soudan area and are being honored as grand marshals for the Tower Fourth of July Parade.

The parade is at 11 a.m. Thursday with judging beginning at 10 a.m. at the Tower Civic Center Parking Lot.

Chuck recalled his reaction upon hearing the news the committee had selected them for the honor.

“I was happy—I don’t look for recognition,” Chuck said.

Nancy Tekautz said she loves the community and is “very honored” by the nomination.

“I am just very pleased that they chose to honor my husband,” Nancy said. “He was born in the Tower-Soudan area, and I’ve only been here for 40 years.”

“It is a pleasure to honor Chuck and Nancy for their numerous years of service on a wide variety of boards and community organizations for both Breitung and Tower,” wrote Tim Tomsich, Chair of the Tower-Soudan Lake Vermilion Events Board. “They both gave much of their time and talent in the past and continue to make contributions to keep our communities a wonderful place to live. They share their spirit of helping with their children and grandchildren as they all are great volunteers at the annual Breitung Community Picnic.”

Chuck served on the Breitung Town Board for 18 years and the Tower City Council for about four or five years.

Nancy grew up in logging camps northeast of Ely. A retired RN, she volunteered with the Tower Ambulance Service for 12 to 13 years, and then she helped developed operations at the Essentia Health Hospice on the Range.

“It was a dream job for me,” Nancy said.

Along with the community events they’ve helped out with throughout the years, they have also been involved with their church.

Chuck and Nancy have been married for nearly 42 years and enjoy spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

You can preregister for the parade by calling 218-255-2131 or by email at tseventsboard@gmail.com.
