The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, C Carlos Linarez, hit a 10th inning grand slam in Peoria’s win. Other standouts include Victor Scott, Pete Hansen, Alex Iadisernia and Ixan Henderson. Results from games played on Sunday, July 28.
A Phenom-enal summer basketball performance
The summer grassroots basketball season came to an end last weekend and some very talented girls teams came home with national championship trophies. The Napheesa Collier Elite 16U team won the Platinum Division title at the National Championships in Louisville, KY. Phee Elite defeated Drill 4 Skill in the championship game to win the 32-team tournament. The team features several top players from St. Louis area schools which include Peyton Olufson, Savannah Stricker, Addi Owen, Nevaeh Lucious and Amya Porchia (Incarnate Word), Kennedy Stowers (Lutheran-St. Charles), Moriyah Douglass (John Burroughs), Josie Christopher (O’Fallon) and Amelia Beer (Mater Dei).

Man charged in deadly Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood shooting
ST. LOUIS — A man was charged in connection with a deadly shooting last month in St. Louis' Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. St. Louis police said they were called to a shooting at about 12:30 a.m. on June 28 near the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Montgomery Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 29-year-old Fletcher Coats of St. Louis unresponsive in an alley.
Cardinals parted with longtime reliever for the cheapest possible reason
The St. Louis Cardinals parted ways with Giovanny Gallegos, a member of the bullpen for the last seven years, in an embarrassing cost-cutting measure. Gallegos practically begged to stay in St. Louis on Saturday night but the Cardinals still sent him packing on Sunday. If it had been because of his objectively bad performances of late, it would have made plenty of sense. However, John Denton of MLB.com shed more light on the decision-making process and it's not encouraging.
