Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, has recently been ranked as the worst college in the state by education.alot.com.

While the United States is home to many top-tier colleges and universities, there are some institutions that fall short of expectations. Shaw University, unfortunately, finds itself on that list.

Founded in 1865, Shaw University is a private institution with a total undergraduate enrollment of 924 (as of fall 2022). The university ranks between #91-99 in the 2024 edition of Best Colleges for Regional Colleges South according to U.S. News & World Report.

In addition, the acceptance rate is 61%, and while the tuition and fees are $16,480, only 9% of students graduate within four years. Additionally, students leave with an average debt of $28,044.

Despite its historical significance as one of the oldest historically Black colleges in the nation, Shaw University faces significant challenges. Low graduation rates and high student debt may be contributing factors to its poor ranking.

What do you think about universities that are considered the lowest-ranked? Have you or someone you know attended a school like this?
