Flags at state facilities in North Carolina will be flown at half-staff in memory of NC House Representative Kelly Alexander Jr., who passed away on Friday.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and NC flags to be lowered immediately and remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday to honor Alexander's legacy.

A distinguished graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Alexander represented Mecklenburg County's 107th District since 2009. He was also a former president of the NC NAACP and served on the national NAACP board, making significant contributions to civil rights and public service.

Governor Cooper expressed his condolences, saying, "I was saddened to hear of the passing of longtime public servant, civil rights advocate, and North Carolina representative Kelly Alexander Jr. I’m grateful for his years of service to our state, and my thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time."

Alexander's impact on both the state and national levels leaves a lasting legacy that will be remembered in North Carolina and beyond.
