GP Portable Buildings, a Kentucky-based manufacturer of outdoor storage buildings, is set to invest $7.4 million and create 51 jobs by opening a manufacturing facility in Marston, North Carolina, in Richmond County.

The company, registered in Kentucky as Graceland Properties, operates dealerships in about 20 states, including North Carolina.

The facility will focus on manufacturing, distributing, and installing portable buildings and outdoor storage sheds. With a new 100,000-square-foot plant, Graceland will double its production capacity, leveraging advanced technology and engineering to create high-quality designs, some of which can be certified for housing.

Governor Roy Cooper expressed optimism about the economic boost, stating that Graceland’s decision to expand in North Carolina was influenced by the state's skilled workforce, strong transportation infrastructure, and affordable business environment. Graceland’s CEO Greg French emphasized the company's commitment to job creation and product innovation.

The new jobs will offer an average annual salary of $43,335, which exceeds the Richmond County average, potentially contributing over $2.2 million annually to the local economy. To support the expansion, Graceland will benefit from a $150,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, contingent upon meeting job creation and capital investment targets.

This expansion highlights North Carolina’s continued success in attracting advanced manufacturers, reinforcing its status as a hub for economic growth across the state. How do you think this investment will impact Richmond County’s economy?
