As millennials enter their prime homebuying years, many are trading the excitement of city life for the practicality of suburban living.

The convenience, affordability, and family-friendly environment of the suburbs have made them increasingly attractive, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic shifted workplace norms and boosted the housing market.

In states like Colorado, suburban areas such as Boulder have seen an influx of young families, with many companies also moving offices to less urban locations. This trend is similarly evident in North Carolina, where its top suburbs are gaining recognition for their quality of life.

According to data compiled from Niche’s 2024 Best Suburbs to Live in North Carolina, here are the top five suburbs:

    • Median household income: $125,317
    • Median home value: $477,400 (67% own)
    • Median rent: $1,538 (33% rent)
    • Top public schools: North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (grade A+), Raleigh Charter High School (grade A+), Green Level High School (grade A+)
    • Top private schools: Cary Academy (grade A+), Durham Academy (grade A+), Ravenscroft School (grade A+)

    2. Morrisville, NC

A growing tech hub with a welcoming community.

    3. Apex, NC

Offers a small-town feel with easy access to larger cities.

    4. Davidson, NC

Known for its historic charm and quality of life.

    5. Rolesville, NC

A rapidly expanding area with affordable housing options.

These suburbs provide a balanced lifestyle with strong communities, excellent education, and a slower pace compared to urban centers, making them ideal for those looking to settle down.

North Carolina and its suburbs are beautiful, but for the love of god, put in some fkn bike lanes, these dumbass car-only roads are a waste of taxpayer dollars for those of us who can't or won't drive on principle.
