Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church’s United Women in Faith will once again have homemade candy, pies, cakes, cookies and more available to tempt your tastebuds during the organization’s annual Good Friday Bake Sale. Funds raised will be donated to the missions supported by the women’s group.

The bake sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the Townsend IGA, 7945 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend. The items are homemade by members of the church and donated for the bake sale.

    Easter eggs, fried pies

Taffy King, president of the Tuckaleechee United Women in Faith of Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church in Townsend, said a customer favorite, chocolate covered candy “Easter eggs” will once again be available.

The candies, which are made with confectioners’ sugar mixed with either peanut butter or coconut, are formed into an oval shape, dipped in chocolate, and decorated in pastel colors. “Then we put them in cupcake holders in individual snack bags,” King said. These are quite popular and sell out quickly. They are measured out so each one is approximately 2 ounces in size.

“These are very sweet,” King said. “The best thing to do is to cut off a slice at a time and eat it.”

Another perennial favorite will be fried apple pies made by church member Bonnie McCampbell.

Cost will be $3 for the eggs and $4 for the fried pies.

“We are also going to have assorted cookies and brownies,” King said. These will be packaged two or three per bag. Cost will be $1 or $2, depending on how many are packaged together. Individual cupcakes will be sold, as well.

“We try to keep the price affordable for everybody,” King said.

In addition, bags of Chex snack mix will be available. King said the snack mix will sell for $3 per bag.

    Easter desserts and more

If you are more inclined toward banana bread or zucchini bread, those will be available, as well. King said she’s making banana bread. Cost will be $5 for a loaf.

Dessert for Easter gatherings, including whole pies and cakes, will be sold.

“I know we’re going to have at least two apple pies,” King said. “We’ll have a coconut cake and a carrot cake, for sure,” as well as other pies and cakes.

Cost for the cakes will be $25 to $35, depending on the cake. The coconut cake, for instance, is three layers and would cost more. Pies will be $10 to $12, again depending on the size.

Proceeds from the Good Friday Bake Sale will benefit the missions projects of Tuckaleechee United Women in Faith, including Haven House, Pregnancy Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, Wears Valley Ranch, Holston Home for Children, Samaritan’s Purse, Camp Wesley Woods, and others, King said. The women’s group holds other fundraisers during the year, including its popular fall festival annually in October as well as a Christmas bake sale.
