Book promo for Girl in the Ashes by Douglas Weissman, this Saturday, April 27th at 6pm at the Vintage Peddler, Simi Valley CAPhoto byThe Vintage Peddler Facebook Page

This Saturday night at The Vintage Peddler at 1750 E. Los Angeles Ave #E, Simi Valley, CA, local author Douglas Weissman will be launching his newest novel, Girl in the Ashes. Doors open at 6pm and Weissman will be reading from the book and signing copies.

With Barnes and Noble attempting to corner the market on bookselling and author signings, it’s refreshing to see a local store highlight writers while bringing the community together. Be sure to check The Vintage Peddler’s Facebook page often as the owner is scheduling other local authors for future events and signings.

Per the author, the synopsis of Girl in the Ashes is:

GIRL IN THE ASHES takes the reader deeper into the morally gray area of doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. Caught in the now dark City of Lights, with survival a daily challenge. GIRL IN THE ASHES is a Trojan horse into Holocaust education, that seeks to reveal a different view of the atrocities of the occupation through a new lens that allows more and new people into the conversation.

France has fallen to the Nazis and as people flee, Odette Lefebvre uses the chaos to kill men she finds deserving. After succumbing to the sinister charms of the new German doctor running the hospital, Odette must keep her head down to avoid unwanted attention or risk exposing her murderous secret and endangering those she loves. But the secrets of those close to her could unknowingly mean her death.”

It's not surprising the Los Angeles Review of Books states the book is “Brutal, Raw, and Sadly Realistic.” Given the current state of affairs in the world, this book couldn’t have been better timed.

Weissman’s last novel Life Between Seconds was also launched at this cozy store and the room was packed. It’s no wonder, based on the stellart reviews that book received as well. Kirkus reviews said it was, “A nuanced, compelling exploration of isolation and grief.”

If you can’t make it to the signing, visit his website for links to Amazon or other booksellers.

The Vintage Peddler is part vintage/antique store and part bookstore, bent on promoting new authors while offering classics, and many coveted signed copies of the favorites we, our parents, or even grandparents grew up with.

The children’s reading section is adorable and a wonderful place to visit with your kids to experience the whimsy and magic you can only find in books. If you want your kids to get some time away from electronics, this is the place.
