KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman signee Elim Yan is officially the newest member of the Tennessee women's tennis program, head coach Alison Ojeda announced on Thursday morning. The Adelaide, Australia, native and Marryatville high school graduate will join the Lady Vols in 2024-25 with four years of collegiate eligibility remaining. Jason Whitten is a vol for life. Although Witten’s college career was not eye-popping numbers wise, he was a great blocker on the field and more than serviceable as a pass catcher as well. Witten had 797 yards receiving and seven touchdowns during his three years in Knoxville, before leaving to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft.
Judge threatens Sean Williams with gag order at day 2 of federal trial
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WCYB) — A judge threatened accused child rapist Sean Williams with a gag order at day two of his federal trial in Greeneville on Wednesday. Williams is facing two escape-related charges, one for an alleged incident last July where authorities said Williams tried to escape from the Washington County Detention Center. Williams is also accused of escaping from a prisoner transport van in October. Williams was eventually captured in Florida in November.

Man shot and killed his mother after arguing about money, police say
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - An argument over money left a Memphis mother dead and her son charged with her murder, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). MPD said the deadly shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at an apartment on Hickory Villas Drive. When officers arrived, Katrina Fields-Michael was lying on the living room floor with gunshot wounds to her upper right thigh, upper left thigh and buttocks, according to police. She died at the hospital.
