BERRYVILLE, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that killed a passenger in an Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV).

According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the crash occurred Friday, July 5 in the 600 block of Barbour Lane in Clarke County.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., a 2019 Kawasaki side-by-side was traveling on private property when it attempted a sharp turn, which caused it to overturn. A side-by-side vehicle closely resembles an ATV and golf-cart hybrid.

The driver of the Kawaski, Nicholas I. Ehrhardt, 24, of Berryville, was not injured in the crash. He had not been wearing a seatbelt.

A passenger on the Kawasaki, Madison Sky Satterfield of Strasburg, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Winchester Medical Center. She had not been wearing a seatbelt.

Earnhardt who caused the accident and the young woman's death was charged with unauthorized use of the vehicle, which means nothing. He won't be charged for causing her death, for driving recklessly, won't spend a day in jail or fined any money. Because Descano, Commonwealth Attorney, doesn't believe in protecting victims rights or punishing criminals.

This is the second fatal crash in which Ehrhardt was behind the wheel. On Aug. 7, 2021, Ehrhardt and another driver engaged in an illegal street race Frederick County. Ehrhardt had two passengers in his 2016 Ford Focus hatchback, one of whom was his 17-year-old sister, Sarah Michelle Ehrhardt.During the race, Ehrhardt lost control of his car while traveling an estimated 117 mph and spun 180 degrees and collided with a fence and metal pole. The vehicle split apart, with the two halves separated about 30 yards apart. Sarah Ehrhardt, who was sitting in the car’s back seat, died at the scene from catastrophic injuries to her head and torso. On Dec. 16, 2022, Frederick County Circuit Court Judge William Eldridge IV sentenced Ehrhardt to 10 years in prison but suspended all but one year. He was released from the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center near Winchester on Oct. 10, 2023, according to jail records.
