Man Attempts to Elude Police; Arrested When He Falls Off Bike

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A Spotsylvania man was arrested after making the bad decision of speeding past a police vehicle and attempting to elude law enforcement.

According to a media release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident occurred August 31, 2024.

At 6:44 a.m., a sergeant in an unmarked SCSO vehicle was headed northbound on Cambridge Street when he noticed a motorcycle rapidly approaching from behind.

The motorcycle passed the SCSO vehicle at 87 mph in the posted 45 mph zone and continued northbound.

The officer activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist continued to accelerate and ran the red light at Centreport Parkway, disappearing in the area of Perchwood Drive.

A BOLO (be on the lookout) was broadcast via radio. Deputies soon realized the suspect had not made it farther north. They began checking businesses along Richmond Highway, and they located the suspect beside a business on Perchwood Drive.

As the sergeant walked up to him to make contact, the subject again fled on the motorcycle but was briefly slowed trying to navigate a curb to drive onto nearby grass. He then proceeded to accelerate too rapidly on the grass, lost control and fell off the bike.

The subject was quickly detained and identified as Timothy Southard, 22.

Southard was arrested for felony eluding, reckless driving, disregarding a red light, improper registration, and no motorcycle endorsement.

He was held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond. According to online court records, he is due to appear in Stafford General District Court on September 10.
