FISHERSVILLE, Va. – A Waynesboro man is behind bars after attempting to flee from police on September 12.

According to a media release, deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) were attempting to serve multiple arrest warrants on a subject at an apartment complex on Bobby’s Way.

The subject, Christopher Robert Hutchinson, jumped out of a window and fled on foot. The pursuit continued across Jefferson Highway towards the Wilson complex.

Wilson Schools were immediately placed on “code secure” status while deputies established a perimeter and searched for the fugitive.

Deputies located Hutchinson in a wooded area near Truitt Lane and took him into custody without incident.

Augusta County Public Schools soon issued the following statement:

This afternoon, we were notified by the Sheriff’s Department of a non-school related event in the Wilson schools community.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff advised our schools to “secure.”  During a code “secure”, students and staff remain inside the school and the instructional routine is not disrupted.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) responded to the situation and provided extra security and support.

Once the individual was apprehended, the “secure” was released.

At no time was the safety of our students nor staff compromised.  We are thankful for the communication from law enforcement and the response from our schools.

Hutchinson, 35,  was arrested on the following outstanding warrants:

19.2-306 -  Felony Violation of Probation from Augusta County Circuit Court.

18.2-456(A)(6) - Capias from Waynesboro Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

An additional charge of 18.2-460, Obstruction of Justice was also obtained.

Hutchinson was taken to Augusta Health for an injury he sustained while running during the foot pursuit.  He is currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
