FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – After his plane collided with several trees, an elderly Fredericksburg man is lucky to be alive.

According to an emailed media release from Virginia State Police (VSP) Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident occurred September 19, 2024.

At 3:27 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 19), VSP responded to a report of a plane crash in the 14500 block of Spring Mill Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed a single-engine Cessna Aircraft attempted to make an emergency landing in a field when it crashed.

The only occupant, the pilot, was a 79-year-old male. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment.

No one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash.

The FAA and NTSB were notified of the incident.  The crash remains under investigation.
