High-Speed Crash Kills 60-Year-Old Driver

NEW MARKET, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Mount Jackson man on Wednesday.

According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident occurred September 25, 2024.

At 9:02 a.m., a 2008 Buick Lucerne was traveling south on Old Valley Pike (Route 11) at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with a tree near Moreland Gap Road.

The driver, Robert B. Colter, 60, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
