LURAY, Va. – Officials have closed trails as firefighters continue to battle the Quaker Run Fire near Shenandoah National Park. The fire started Thursday, October 26, in the Rapidan Wildlife Management area, just outside the park boundary in Madison County.
Social media bomb threat leads to arrest of high school student
SHENANDOAH, Va. – On Friday, a high school student was taken into custody after making bomb threats online. According to a media release by the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PSCO), deputies were made aware of a November 3 social media post that allegedly contained threatening language toward Page County High School.
Man sentenced to mental health facility for fishing illegally
NORFOLK, Va. — A Virginia fisherman has been sentenced for illegally harvesting striped bass over a period of several years. Commercial fisherman Keith James Martin is from Saxis, a small town located in Accomack County. According to a June report in the Virginian-Pilot, Martin pleaded guilty to violating state law and the Lacey Act by fishing striped bass above his quota, failing to report the amount of bass and the offense of completing the sale of at least one striped bass to a commercial purchaser without using a certified scale. These offenses date back to 2018.
Juveniles lead officers on high speed chase after porch package theft
STAFFORD, Va. – Three juveniles managed to escape serious consequences after a November 1 crime spree. According to a written release on the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Facebook page, they received a call reporting a larceny on Elkton Drive at approximately 6:04 p.m. The caller advised that they’d witnessed three juveniles taking a package from a front porch, and then running into an abandoned England Run apartment.
