Elderly Man Dies on Skyline Drive
LURAY, Va. – An elderly Powhatan man died in Shenandoah National Park on Sunday. A Shenandoah National Park spokesperson confirmed the incident via email. At approximately 2 p.m. on October 22, park dispatchers received a report of a single motor vehicle crash in the southern portion of Skyline Drive.
Caught in the act: Nurse jailed and fined for forging prescriptions
ROANOKE, Va. – In federal court this week, a former nurse practitioner from New Castle was sentenced to jail time for participating in an illegal drug conspiracy. According to a media release issued by Western District of Virginia U.S. Attorney's Office, Debra Shaffer, 71, previously pleaded guilty to one count of “using the DEA Registration number of another” while prescribing controlled substances. DEA Registration numbers are unique identifiers used to track who issues drug prescriptions.
Deputy Crashes Police Vehicle Into Tree: Sheriff's Office Investigating
LURAY – On Monday, a Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy crashed a county vehicle into a tree, according to a statement on the PCSO Facebook page. In the morning hours of October 23, a deputy assigned to the Page County Jail was operating a PCSO inmate work-detail truck on PCSO property.

According to an emailed VSP media release, the incident occurred Wednesday, October 4, at 6:08 p.m. A 2007 BWM X3, a 2017 Ford Fusion, a 2022 Toyota 4-Runner, and a 2001 Lexus ES were traveling westbound when they simultaneously stopped for a red light.
Page County Volunteer Fire Department call stats for July 2023
The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 55 calls for the month of July, reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit via an emailed statement. Chief Pettit reported that there were sixteen emergency calls, fourteen medical calls and twenty three non-emergency calls. The total calls for the year so far is 357.

According to Virginia State Police, it was just after 12 p.m. on Interstate 64 when a tire dislodged from a westbound 2017 Jeep Renegade and traveled into the eastbound lane.
Former Page County Sheriff’s deputy arrested
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. – A former Page County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for four counts of possessing child p0rnography. According to official court documents obtained for this story, on July 20, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTip from a Verizon cloud-based storage provider. The report included an image of what appeared to be an underage female, unclothed, and in an explicit pose. The image had been uploaded from a 434 phone number in mid-June.

LURAY, Va. – A Stanley man has been arrested for an online crime involving children. On September 20, the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Criminal Investigations Division received a CyberTip indicating that there were images and/or videos, determined to be illicit images of children, uploaded or downloaded from a residence in Page County.
Fire department lieutenant arrested after stealing drugs from stations
FAIRFAX, Va. – A 17-year-veteran of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) has been arrested for stealing a controlled substance from her place of employment. In early August, during a routine inspection at Station 36, a technician discovered a vial of morphine that showed signs of tampering. The technician compared the vial with other vials, and discovered that the amount of liquid in the compromised vial was much less than in that of the others. There also appeared to be a small hole in the substance kit. The findings were immediately reported to a supervisor.

Residents lead deputies to wanted man; celestial weapon confiscated
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A call from Stafford County residents helped officers find and apprehend a wanted man this past weekend. According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on September 24th. At approximately 4:10 p.m., Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy B.W. Gildea were at the Latin Market (367 Warrenton Road), when they observed someone they knew to be wanted for outstanding capias charges.
