Page County Public Schools increase safety measures for students and staff
LURAY, Va. – At the August 10 Page County School Board meeting, new safety improvements were announced. These improvements, to be implemented at the start of the 2023-2024 school year, will increase communication, training and security measures during regular instruction days and in the event of emergencies or crisis incidents.

Free programs for all ages at the Shenandoah National Park Night Sky Festival through August 13
LURAY, Va.– Shenandoah National Park, in Virginia, is celebrating its annual Night Sky Festival, through August 13, 2023. Speakers at the event will encourage visitors to gain appreciation for dark skies through a variety of special programs and activities. Park ranger-led programs will focus on wild animals that rely on dark skies, each planet’s role in the solar system, and stories told by the constellations. Participants are invited to enjoy targazing, constellation tours, Junior Ranger activities, and more.
Two-vehicle crash claims the life of Harrisonburg teen
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday, August 8. At 8:42 p.m., a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on Buffalo Drive (approximately a mile west of Route 718, Old Furnace Road), when it slowed to make a left turn onto a private drive.

PAGE COUNTY, Va. – Fugitive Timothy Thomas Comer had eluded authorities for more than two weeks. After a man was found shot dead in a Jollett Road residence on June 29, police searched for Comer first as a person of interest, and then as a wanted man. A suspicious Jollett Road fire on July 9 had also indicated his involvement.

PAGE COUNTY, Va. – Just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) announced that Timothy Thomas Comer had been captured, and was finally in police custody. The PCSO Facebook post officially announced the end of what had been an exhausting two-week search for the fugitive.

STANLEY, Va. – A Saturday evening crash in Page County resulted in the death of one person and the injury of four others. According to Stanley Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit, the Stanley Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on July 8, at approximately10:05 p.m. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 340, near the intersection of Alan’s Road, not far from the Page County Technical Center.
Tractor-trailer driver charged in crash that killed two
STAFFORD, Va. – Virginia State Police continue to investigate a three-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of two individuals. The crash occurred Wednesday, July 5 at 4:42 a.m. on Interstate 95 at the 136-mile marker, in Stafford.
