Page County 'bag tax' discussion tabled until next BOS meeting
LURAY, Va. — Page County officials remain undecided about adopting a new plastic bag tax in local stores and restaurants. In 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed a bill allowing counties to implement a five-cent tax for disposable plastic bags provided to customers for the purpose of transporting purchases.

Rev. Billy Graham's daughter speaks at Page County Jail service
LURAY, Va. – The daughter of the late Reverend Billy Graham was a featured speaker at a recent Page County Jail ministry service. Along with several local pastors, author and speaker Ruth Graham delivered a message of hope to those in attendance at the May 23 revival.
Shenandoah National Park urges visitors to enjoy the scenery safely
LURAY, Va. — Shenandoah National Park (SNP) is reminding travelers to slow down when enjoying the scenic Skyline Drive. Via an official Facebook post on Thursday, the park released a photo of a crane pulling a pickup truck from a cliff on the Drive. According to the post, the truck had been speeding, and had gone over the stone wall that lines a substantial portion of the 105-mile road.

Task force intercepts nearly $11,000 of meth in Page County
LURAY, Va. – A North Chesterfield man was arrested this weekend after police received a tip that he was traveling to Luray to distribute methamphetamine. On May 20, David Brandon Holloway, 33, was located in the parking lot of Tractor Supply Co., on US Hwy 211 West. Four ounces of methamphetamine with a street value of $10,752.00 was seized. Holloway was promptly arrested by members of the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I/II controlled substance. Officers from the Luray Police Department and the Page County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
Remains of missing man found in Shenandoah National Park
LURAY, Va. – After a week-long search, remains believed to be those of a missing Oakton man were located in the northern portion of Shenandoah National Park. Mateo Cobo Zevallos, 21, was last seen May 5 leaving his home en route to George Mason University in Fairfax. He was reported as missing to the Fairfax County Police Department on May 6.

LURAY, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Staunton District has announced that upcoming roadway maintenance on U.S. 211 is expected to create significant delays between Page and Shenandoah Counties.
Arrest Made In Kidnapping and Assault of DoorDash Delivery Driver
TAMPA, Fla. – A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a DoorDash driver last week is now in police custody. According to a news release issued by the Tampa Police Department, the incident occurred just after 11:00 p.m. on April 18, 2023. The victim, a female in her early 20s, was forced back into her car as she was making a delivery to the Tampa Residence Inn.

Valley Health settles suit with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
WINCHESTER, Va. – A multi-million dollar Valley Health lawsuit filed against Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been settled. In October 2022, Winchester-based Valley Health said it was suing Anthem to recoup $11.4 million in past due payments. The suit, initially filed in Winchester Circuit Court, advanced to federal court and increased to $15 million.
Jury finds Harrisonburg businessman guilty on child pornography charges
HARRISONBURG, Va. – A Rockingham County man has been found guilty on several counts of possessing and distributing child pornography, as reported by the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD).
Medical emergency suspected in fatal Luray crash
LURAY, Va. – A medical emergency is suspected as the cause of a recent crash that took the life of a Luray woman. According to a statement from the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred on Collins Avenue, a short but winding section between US Highway 340 and US Business 211 in Page County. The crash occurred at approximately 3:46 p.m., Wednesday, April 12.
