Luray man sentenced to life in prison for crime against juvenile
LURAY, Va. -- On February 10, 2021 the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Criminal Investigations Division received a report of a sexual assault involving a child. A resulting investigation was led by Page County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Kenneth Boyd, a member of the Northern Virginia – Washington, DC Internet Crimes Against Children (NOVA-DC ICAC) Task Force and assisted by Page County Sheriff’s Office Investigators.
Stanley man sentenced for drug and firearm offenses
STANLEY, Va. – A local man is behind bars less than a year after being the focus of a major Page County investigation. On March 21, 2022, a search warrant was conducted at a residence on Dovel Hollow Road in Stanley. The warrant was the result of a months-long investigation into the distribution of dangerous narcotics.
Remains found in Shenandoah National Park may be those of missing Albemarle man
Luray, Va. – The body of a male believed to be missing Virginia man James Alan Cattley was discovered by searchers in the southern portion of Shenandoah National Park. Consisting of 80,000 acres, the park encompasses parts of eight counties. Each year, millions visit the area, which includes the 105-mile Skyline Drive and 75 designated scenic overlooks. The park also includes established campgrounds (open seasonally) and 101 miles of the famed Appalachian Trail, on which visitors hike and often overnight camp. Camping on the A.T. requires a free permit either obtained from a park ranger or via self-registration at one of the park's many kiosks. Skyline Drive is always open, weather-permitting. The park itself is open 365 days per year.
Local fugitive apprehended in Nevada
RENO, Nev. – Marcus Lee Lewis, a person of interest in the disappearance of a Shenandoah Valley man, was shot by Reno/Sparks police in Reno this past weekend. On December 4, police were notified of an individual who was possibly armed with a knife in downtown Reno. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the subject (Lewis) failed to follow verbal commands and fled on foot. An officer in pursuit utilized a taser, which failed to stop the subject. After further refusal to follow the verbal commands of officers, shots were fired at Lewis. He received medical assistance on scene and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.
Shenandoah Valley Sheetz locations offering $1.99 gas for holiday travelers
VIRGINIA – The Sheetz convenience store chain is reducing the price of unleaded gas to $1.99 a gallon through November 28 at several locations throughout the valley. The special Thanksgiving week price will be available at the many Virginia Sheetz stores offering Unleaded 88 gas.

RICHMOND, Va. — A revision to Virginia state code is addressing the controversial practice of declawing cats. Pre-filed in the General Assembly on November 7, the proposed modification would outlaw the practice within the commonwealth.
Shenandoah National Park names new deputy superintendent
LURAY, Va. – Shenandoah National Park Superintendent Patrick Kenney has announced Raquel Montez as the next deputy superintendent of the park. “Raquel has excellent experience managing people and park operations. She is well known for her ability to engage with employees,” said Kenney in a November 14 written statement.
Valley Health Closes Luray Gym
LURAY, Va. – The only full-service fitness center in Luray has closed its doors for good. The Valley Health Wellness & Fitness Center has been temporarily closed since October 13 due to fire damage from the adjacent Dollar Tree store. However, in a November 7 letter, Valley Health's Corporate Director of Fitness Services, Jeffrey Jeran, advised members that the closure is now permanent.
