A well-known consumer advocacy group is alerting consumers about a potentially cancer-causing substance already in most baskets this Easter. Consumer Reports has issued a warning that several variations of marshmallow Peeps are made with Red Dye No. 3, a known carcinogen.

LURAY, Va. – On Saturday, April 1, Page County Schools Superintendent Dr. Antonia Fox released written statements addressing last week’s school emergency, while providing direction to help staff and students to move forward.
Page County school locked down, one person in custody
SHENANDOAH, Va. – On Thursday, March 30, a local elementary school was placed on lockdown after a suspicious individual was reported near the school. Late in the morning, parents received a text alert notification from Page County Public Schools (PCPS) that a lockdown was in effect at Shenandoah Elementary, and that police were already on site performing a full security sweep of the school and grounds.
Man charged with defacing Luray Greenway property
LURAY, Va. – On Tuesday, March 28, the Luray Police Department (LPD) identified and arrested a Page County man less than 24 hours after a local walking trail was vandalized. Earlier in the day, the LPD took to their Facebook page to post surveillance video stills of the subject, photos of the vandalism, and a request for the public’s help in identifying the man.
Early morning fire destroys Page County poultry house
Stanley, Va. – The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at a poultry house early Monday morning. In a written statement, Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that the department was notified of a Pine Grove Road structure fire at approximately 4:04 a.m.
Luray man arrested for solicitation of a minor
FRONT ROYAL, Va. – An undercover online police investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Page County man. On March 20, 2023, the Front Royal Police Department (FRPD) launched an investigation focused on the solicitation of minors in the Warren County area. During the investigation, an adult male initiated contact with a FRPD detective he believed to be a female under the age of 15. The adult male proceeded to send sexually explicit material to the detective.
High winds tear roof from church building
STANLEY, Va. — Stanley Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to a roof collapse on Sunday. Stanley Fire Chief Terry Pettit said that at 12:31 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were dispatched to the former Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at 720 W. Main St. in Stanley.
Valley Health announces additional job cuts
WINCHESTER, Va. — Valley Health has announced the elimination of 31 administrative positions. Since the start of 2023, the health system has eliminated nearly 100 positions through consolidation, attrition and layoffs. This number includes the 31 individuals who were notified last week, a statement from the organization said on Monday.

Thieves Steal Catalytic Converter From Wienermobile
LAS VEGAS, Nv. -- One of the famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles was recently dogged by thieves. The 27-foot frankfurter-shaped vehicle was in Las Vegas for events related to Super Bowl weekend. However, according to Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS TV, the Wienermobile’s catalytic converter was stolen early Friday morning.
Luray man sentenced to life in prison for crime against juvenile
LURAY, Va. -- On February 10, 2021 the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Criminal Investigations Division received a report of a sexual assault involving a child. A resulting investigation was led by Page County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Kenneth Boyd, a member of the Northern Virginia – Washington, DC Internet Crimes Against Children (NOVA-DC ICAC) Task Force and assisted by Page County Sheriff’s Office Investigators.
