Last day of triple digits with storms and an upcoming refreshing cooldown
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - We start off this evening by moving storms that have developed off the Hills out of the area. Some of these storms could be producing locally heavy downpours and hail. The rest of the area is quiet for now, with temperatures in the upper 90s to even a few triple digits, like in Philip, when starting the evening. Still, as we fall towards the mid-60s in most areas east of the Hills, we will be waiting for some storms to form, with the potential of them being rather nasty north of I-90. A slight risk of severe thunderstorms remains along and northeast of the line, extending through Belle Fourche to Spearfish, just west of Rapid City over the hills, and down towards Kyle and the Badlands. The enhanced risk over portions of Harding, Perkins, and Ziebach Counties in Northwestern South Dakota and Carter County in Southeastern Montana is an even bigger deal. North of I-90 and into these areas is the most significant risk of hail to hen-egg-sized/lime-size or more giant, and wind gusts of up to 75 mph are possible.
