Fears for safety at Mike Durfee State Prison
SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO) — Emailed statements from the South Dakota Department of Corrections have briefly described violence at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield on July 9 and 10. “Several” inmates fighting each other on the first day resulted in minor injuries to staff as well as non-life-threatening injuries to six inmates, and there was another fight “with a few inmates” on the following day, according to statements from the DOC.

‘Sort of a dead spot’: Former Olympian excited for crowds return at Paris games
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - In a little under two weeks, fans will be allowed inside Olympic venues for the first time since 2016. During the last summer games, Toyko 2020, which actually took place in the summer of 2021, fans were barred from watching events live due to COVID-19. Former 1980 Olympian Willie Banks, who was in town this past week for his World Record Camp as South Dakota Mines, says having the fans is what he’s most looking forward to.
Lost&Found Rapid City Ribbon Cutting
Lost&Found, the largest youth and young adult suicide prevention and loss survivor nonprofit in the area, has been a beacon of hope and support for many communities across South Dakota and Minnesota. Since its inception in 2010 by five dedicated 18-year-old students from the Mitchell, SD area, Lost&Found has grown to provide life-saving programs and resources to over 40 communities.
