USDA using 1935 law to buy $22 million in Oregon, Washington fish fillets

Ruling on homelessness raises the risks for domestic violence survivors, experts say
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court has ruled in the case of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson, to uphold a law enacted by a small Oregon town that bars those experiencing homelessness from using blankets, pillows and cardboard boxes while sleeping outdoors within city limits. Those who are found doing so can impose fines for camping in public on first-time offenders and up to 30 days of jail time for repeat offenders. It’s a case that has major implications for survivors of domestic violence, experts say.
New faculty and student trustees join Oregon Tech governing board
July 10, 2024, Klamath Falls, Ore. – Two new trustees joined the Board of Trustees of Oregon Institute of Technology this month. The trustees are Mark Neupert, Ph.D., a member of the Oregon Tech faculty, and Aaron Hill, a current Oregon Tech student. The trustees were nominated by Governor Tina Kotek and confirmed by the Oregon Senate on May 31, 2024.
Gov. Newsom: California Is Making Progress in Fentanyl Fight
Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that state law enforcement authorities seized 5.8 million pills containing fentanyl across the state since the beginning of the year. The California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force partnered with local and federal law enforcement to seize illegal fentanyl off the streets and at ports of entry along the Southern border, according to Newsom.

According to True Crime News, in a tragic end to a long investigation Daniel Burda 41 has entered a plea deal in the death of Dennis Day a former member of Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club.” Burda pleaded no contest to criminally negligent homicide and second-degree abuse of a corpse. He was sentenced to just over four years in prison followed by three years of post-release supervision. This plea deal announced by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office on July 8 comes five years after Day’s body was found under a pile of clothes in his Phoenix, Oregon home. Burda is also serving a two-year sentence for burglary. The events have deeply affected Day’s family who are still coping with their loss and the circumstances of his death.
