In the dynamic world of real estate, agents often find themselves trapped in a cycle of stagnation—persistently applying outdated methods or chasing fleeting trends without tangible results. Tammi Brannan, founder of Blueprint Process, and Tracey Royal, vice president of agent development at Coldwell Banker Realty, shed light on how leaders can steer their teams back on track when momentum wanes.

Brannan, based in Corvallis, Oregon, describes this common dilemma as "spinning your wheels"—a state where agents cling to ineffective practices, hoping for a breakthrough that never materializes. “Without a clear solution, it’s all too easy to rely on past methods, even when they no longer yield results,” she observes.

Royal emphasizes the importance of structured support to counteract this inertia. As the vice president of agent development, she monitors agents’ engagement with training and resources, identifying those who may be struggling. “Absenteeism from training sessions and a lack of engagement often signal that agents are not investing their time wisely,” Royal explains. Regular reviews and interventions help Royal provide targeted assistance, ensuring that agents are aligned with strategies that foster success.

A prevalent issue Royal identifies is the misconception that real estate is a quick path to wealth, a notion often perpetuated by flashy marketing and social media promises. This misconception can lead agents to invest time and resources into ineffective methods. “Success in real estate demands patience, dedication, and consistency,” she says. Agents sometimes waste efforts on non-converting leads, ill-planned events, and unverified online advice, failing to see the expected returns.

To address these challenges, Brannan and Royal advocate for a strategic approach to real estate practices. Royal suggests leveraging successful agents as role models. “Highlighting agents who excel in their field during meetings can inspire and guide others,” she notes. Agents are encouraged to seek mentors, participate in shadowing experiences, and engage in group coaching to gain practical insights and realistic expectations about effective strategies.

Building a robust roadmap is another critical strategy. Leaders should work with agents to set clear goals and develop comprehensive business plans. This structured approach helps agents focus on essential tasks and resist distractions. “Having a clear plan allows agents to navigate their responsibilities with integrity and purpose,” Brannan says.

Furthermore, a lack of confidence can be a significant barrier to progress. Leaders play a crucial role in reinforcing their agents' strengths and unique qualities. “Empowering agents to recognize their value and potential can reignite their motivation and drive,” Brannan adds.

By combining structured support, strategic planning, and confidence-building, real estate leaders can help their agents break free from stagnation and propel their careers forward.
