$250k Golden Tiny House Shines a Light on the Small Living Movement

The tiny house revolution is no stranger to innovation, but the Golden House is pushing the boundaries of what luxury and minimalism can achieve together. Priced at $250,000, this shimmering masterpiece by Estonian designer ÖÖD offers a high-end retreat for those seeking exclusivity in small-scale living. With just 79 units available globally, the Golden House is as rare as the gold it emulates, creating a buzz in the world of tiny homes.

Designed with precision, the Golden House features a mirrored gold-glass finish that dazzles against any backdrop, whether nestled in a forest or perched atop a hillside. ÖÖD commissioned this unique, golden-shimmering glass specifically for the project, aiming to merge aesthetic brilliance with functionality. While its exterior is an immediate showstopper, the house also includes wooden cladding on the rear, grounding the design in natural beauty.

Spanning 7.9 meters (25 feet) in length and 3.3 meters (10 feet) in width, the Golden House offers 26.3 square meters (283 square feet) of living space. Its compact size doesn't limit the experience, though—it maximizes both comfort and luxury. A multipurpose room drenched in natural light from the expansive glass walls forms the core of the house, complete with underfloor heating and oak paneling that exude warmth and elegance. Gold-colored fixtures throughout the home subtly remind inhabitants of its unique standing in the tiny house market.

Within the living space, minimalist yet sophisticated design choices dominate. A cozy seating area with a coffee table anchors the room, leading naturally into a small but stylish kitchen, equipped with gold-toned fixtures, a fridge, and cabinetry. A bedroom area featuring a double bed and large storage unit completes the primary living spaces. The bathroom, accessible from the kitchen, maintains the luxurious theme with a wall-mounted toilet, sink, and a shower that offers stunning views—though the mirrored glass provides privacy from outside gazes.

Energy-wise, the Golden House is designed for flexibility. It connects to a standard RV-style power setup but can be upgraded to run off-grid with solar panels, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers.

However, with a price tag significantly higher than comparable tiny houses like the Thuya by Minimaliste, the Golden House caters to a niche market. Its limited run of 79 units—a nod to gold’s atomic number—ensures its status as a collector's item. ÖÖD expects around 30 units to be sold in Europe and the U.S., with the remaining heading to the Middle East and beyond.

While the Golden House may not be for everyone, its blend of opulence and minimalism is a bold statement in the growing tiny home movement. By combining cutting-edge design, luxury, and sustainability, ÖÖD challenges the norms of what a tiny house can be, offering a glimpse into the future of small-space living.
